Welfare

To show we value and respect our flocks, we go beyond the requirements of the RSCPA Freedom Foods Assurance Scheme. Some of the extra provisions we have made include...

  • doubling the area in which our hen’s can roam and forage during daylight hours
  • providing four times the prescribed area of natural tree cover thereby giving our hens the protection and natural habitat they need for a stress free life
  • ensuring all our employees are trained to have a good understanding of bird health, welfare, bio-security and food hygiene.

It is our endeavour to go the extra mile to ensure our Cluck-hens are cared for so that they can live a good life whilst producing good food for you.

Standards of hygiene are also critically important.  Our producers farms are assured under the British Lion Code Quality scheme which ensures that our eggs are produced to a stringent Code of Practice incorporating the latest research and advice on Salmonella and eggs from scientists and vets.  Our birds are vaccinated against Salmonella and are regularly sampled to ensure that our eggs do not carry the bacteria.

We also strive towards achieving a higher environmental standard:

  • Our eggs are packed and graded as close as possible to the farm reducing the CO² emissions
  • Our unique and durable specially engineered boxes have been made from recycled cardboard and can be recycled again if you put it into your recycling box (see your local council website for more recycling information). Also, did you know your eggs shells are also home compostable?
